Job seekers staged a sit-in protest at Shahbagh in front of the National Museum on Monday, demanding that the government immediately issue a notification extending the age limit for entering government jobs to 35 years.

Protest coordinators vowed not to leave the premises until their demand is met, with leaders warning that they would go on hunger strike if the government does not act by Monday.

Earlier, the Public Administration Reforms Commission recommended raising the age limit for men entering government service to 35 years and for women to 37 years.

Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, head of the commission, revealed this to reporters at the Secretariat on October 14.

The protesters claimed that the commission had promised a decision on the age limit extension by Thursday, October 17. However, no official notification has been issued so far.

They warned that if the notification is not released by Monday, their non-violent demonstration could turn more confrontational.

The protest organizers called for a large rally on Sunday to gather more job seekers, though around 200 participants had gathered as of press time.

Coordinators noted that job seekers from across the country were joining the protest, and the numbers were increasing.

Despite their frustration, the protesters stressed their commitment to peaceful demonstrations and urged the government to avoid escalating the situation.

They called on authorities to meet their demands and issue the necessary notification.
