  • 3pm start time planned
  • Staff instructed to prepare duty rosters
Update : 02 Sep 2024, 12:57 PM

The Dhaka metro rail may begin operations on Fridays soon, with services starting from 3pm.

Multiple officials from Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL), the organization that operated the service, confirmed the development on Monday.

While no official announcement had been made yet, the plan was in place, they said.

Discussions had been held with the adviser concerned, but the exact date was not yet finalized, they added.

People would be informed about the date once it was set, but the authorities were moving forward with it very quickly, the officials said.

According to DMTCL sources, the launch of Friday services is imminent, and preparations are underway. Station controllers, train operators and other staff involved have been instructed to prepare their duty rosters.

Due to lower passenger numbers in the morning, the metro rail will operate from 3pm on Fridays. The last train from Uttara North to Motijheel will reportedly depart at 8:33pm, and the final train from Motijheel to Uttara will leave at 9:13pm.

Asked about the matter, MAN Siddique, the managing director of DMTCL, told this correspondent: "We are working on it. We will go on a visit today… We need a little more time."

"We need to set up the entire Friday system, but we are actively working towards launching it. That is all I can say for now," he added.
