Panic gripped passengers and locals after suspicious bags were found near Dhaka’s Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro stations on Saturday, prompting a security operation by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police.
Security was tightened after reports emerged that a suspected bag containing explosives had been found at the Mirpur-10 metro station.
Around the same time, another abandoned bag was spotted beneath the Farmgate metro station, triggering concern among commuters and nearby residents.
The bomb disposal unit of the CTTC was deployed to examine the suspicious items and carry out necessary checks. Additional law enforcement personnel were stationed in the areas to maintain security and prevent any untoward incident.
Tejgaon police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kashainyu said a suspicious bag was found under the metro station, following which specialists were called in. After examination, they found nothing hazardous, and the situation is now normal.
DMP Mirpur Zone Assistant Commissioner Abul Bashar told Bangla Tribune that the abandoned bag beneath the metro station initially raised suspicion that it might contain explosive materials.
“Bomb experts were called in and they inspected the bag but found no explosive substance. The situation is currently normal,” he said.
