National Press Club President Farida Yasmin and General Secretary Shyamal Dutta have accused some committee members of trying to take over the organization by force.
They claimed in a press release issued on Sunday that some individuals vandalized their offices and engaged in acts of looting.
They further contended that Vice President Hasan Hafiz and Joint General Secretary Aiyub Bhuiyan convened an illegal meeting to undemocratically dismiss the elected president and two other officials.
Additionally, the accused members were reportedly taking steps to expel 50 more senior journalists from the club.
Earlier, a statement was issued saying that a decision had been made in a management committee meeting to expel Farida Yasmin, Shyamal Dutta and Shahnaj Siddiqui from their positions.
It also said that Vice President Hasan Hafiz and Joint General Secretary Aiyub Bhuiyan were made preident and general secretary, respectively, according to the club's constitution.
The statement stated that on Saturday, coordinators of the Students Against Discrimination movement submitted a memorandum with their demands to the management committee, reflecting the changing circumstances following the student uprising.
To ensure the safety of the National Press Club, and its members, and to uphold the integrity of the journalism community, decisions were made regarding Farida Yasmin, Shyamal Dutta and Shahnaj Siddiqui.
