The capital, Dhaka, is slowly returning to normalcy as the government has relaxed the ongoing curfew for the second day, allowing a seven-hour window.
Since Thursday morning, some roads in the capital were congested with traffic, while others remained empty.
Meanwhile, commuters are paying double or triple the usual fare due to the reduced availability of public transport. Private cars were predominantly seen on the main roads in Dhaka.
A contractor, Khalilur Rahman, was seen walking from Mohammadpur to Kalabagan in the morning.
He said: "Despite the curfew, we are continuing our work on a limited scale every day. I'm doing it myself because it's a small business. Autorickshaws are taking more fare than usual so I am walking to my destination."
Sumon Mia, a rickshaw passenger, said: "I walked for some time and then took this rickshaw. This has been going on for the last two days.”
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of Tejgaon Zone Snehasish Kumar Das said that the pressure of vehicles on the road was not seen till noon on Thursday.
Many people are not leaving home without urgent need during the curfew. There is not much traffic, he added.
The government offices and banks were open from 11am to 3pm on both Wednesday and Thursday. Meanwhile, the activities of the Dhaka Stock Exchange began at 11am and ended at 2pm.
