Customs seizes 4.42kg of gold at Dhaka airport

The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized 4.42kg of gold from a flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the estimated market value of which is approximately Tk4.5 crore.

The gold was recovered at 5:30am on Wednesday during a search of a SalamAir flight from Muscat, Oman.

Pradip Kumar Sarkar, assistant director of the airport Customs intelligence circle, confirmed the information.

He said that during the search, two heavy objects wrapped in black tape were found in the overhead cabin above seats 2 (D-E-F) of the aircraft.

The items wrapped in black tape were brought to the Customs hall inventory in the presence of the aircraft's responsible personnel, and a video was recorded, he added.

Mentioning that 38 pieces of gold bars were found after cutting the tape in the presence of various agencies working at the airport, he said the seized gold was sent to the warehouse of Dhaka Customs House.
