Budget FY25

No more 24-carat gold under baggage rules

Passengers under the age of 12 are not allowed to bring in gold ornaments

Update : 06 Jun 2024, 08:07 PM

Significant changes have been proposed to baggage rules in the budget for FY25. For instance, 24-carat gold ornaments will not be allowed. Only gold ornaments of 22 carats or lower, up to 100 grams, can be brought in.

Passengers under the age of 12 are not allowed to bring in gold ornaments, gold bars, or alcoholic beverages as part of baggage facilities.

Furthermore, baggage that has not been brought with passengers (unaccompanied baggage) will not receive duty exemption facilities. Duties must be paid on goods brought in through such baggage.

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali presented the proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year amounting to Tk797,000 crore (Tk7.97 trillion) in parliament on Thursday.

This was his first budget unveiling and also the first budget after the reelection of the Awami League government in January.
