Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials have seized 81.50 litres of foreign liquor of various brands from two passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, in excess of the duty-free limit.
Acting on a tip-off, officials of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Circle, Airport (A-Shift), took up positions at the airport.
Roman Mikhailov, a passenger on Emirates flight EK0584 from Dubai, was stopped as he passed through the green channel, and all his baggage was scanned.
A search recovered 78.50 litres of liquor of various brands.
As the passenger holds a foreign passport, officials allowed him to import one litre duty-free under the applicable baggage rules and seized the remaining 77.50 litres.
In a separate incident on the night of September 29, Samiul Islam, a passenger on Turkish Airlines flight TK0712, was intercepted at the green channel.
A scan of his baggage revealed another 4 litres of liquor of various brands, which was also seized.
Excluding the permitted one litre, the CIID seized a total of 81.50 litres of foreign liquor in the two incidents.
