Metro rail service will remain closed for two days during Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the greatest religious festivals for Muslims.

As Thursday marks Eid and the following day is Friday, the modern public transport will be closed for two days.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has announced the closure of metro rail on Eid before the start of Ramadan.

DMTCL said that metro rail is run by its own staff, but that number of employees is less than needed. If the metro rail is kept open, most of the workers will have to be busy on Eid.

Besides, fewer passengers will use metro rail service on Eid day till afternoon.

According to DMTCL, an average of 246,000 passengers travelled on metro rail every day during Ramadan.

Before Ramadan the number was like 2,95,000. Passengers have increased after the extension of metro rail service by one hour from 16 Ramadan. An average of 290,000 passengers traveled in the last five days.
