As the holy month of Ramadan is starting, many people will be on the roads during the iftar time and food is not allowed inside the metro rail.
In this situation a question arises: Can commuters break their fast while traveling on the metro rail? However, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has provided a solution.
In Ramadan, the DMTCL will allow people to break their fast with water during the iftar time and people can carry 250ml of water with them.
This announcement came during a press conference held by DMTCL's management director, MAN Siddique, at the DMTCL meeting room in Eskaton, on Sunday afternoon.
He also requested the passengers to throw the water bottle in the garbage box at the station or take it with them.
MAN Siddique asked to be careful while drinking water, not to make the floor of the metro train slippery or damaged.
The DMTCL also announced the new time schedule for metro rail operations during Ramadan. There are no changes in schedule for the first 15 days of Ramadan but during the last 15 days, the train services will be extended by one hour from both ends. The last metro train from Uttara will depart at 9:20pm, while the last train from Motijheel will leave at 9:40pm.
Currently the last metro train from Uttara to Motijheel departs at 8pm and the last metro train from Motijheel to Uttara departs at 8.40pm.
