Two people were killed in a fire in the Mollabari slum adjacent to the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) gate in Tejgaon area of the capital.
The fire was brought under control at 3:40am on Saturday with the efforts of 13 units of Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Besides, some other people were reported injured. Their names were not immediately known.
Meanwhile, nearly 300 homes were destroyed in the fire, according to the fire service control room.
Fire Service and Civil Defence Director (Operation and Maintenance) Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury confirmed the information early Saturday.

He said that the news of the fire in Mollabari slum near BFDC gate in Tejgaon came at 2:23am. After a few minutes, the members of the fire service reached the spot and started working to control the fire.
The fire was brought under control at 3:40am after nearly an hour of efforts.
Multiple units from Tejgaon, Mohammadpur, Siddiqbazar, and Mirpur fire stations went to control the fire.
He added that the fire service official could not immediately tell where the fire started from.
Meanwhile, a woman and her son suffered burn injuries in the fire and were taken to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The injured are Najma, 25, and her son Nazrul, 4.
Najma sustained injuries while rescuing her from their house gutted in the fire.
She received 23% burn injuries, said a residential doctor of the hospital.
The child was released with first aid.
