Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Saturday said that the number of dengue patients in the area has been limited to 50-54 people per day for the last one month.
"We have kept the process of killing the breeding ground of Aedes mosquitoes in motion by destroying the source. For this reason, the number of patients in the DSCC area has been under control since last month.”
He said this after attending a program to prevent the spread of dengue in the capital’s Zigatola area after it was declared a red zone.
"The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is also saying that the number of dengue patients in Dhaka is stable now. The number of patients will come down soon if everyone is aware of the matter,” he said.
He added that the DSCC’s last week's review showed more than 10 patients in both wards 14 and 56. “So we have declared these two wards as red zones. In that context, we have been conducting extensive publicity, combing operations, and cleanliness activities. I hope this will make the locals more aware and reduce the number of patients further.”
Two wards of DSCC have been identified as red zones for dengue.
The DSCC residents of wards no 14 and 56 are at dire risk of dengue infection.
Both wards have been declared on the criteria of receiving more than 10 dengue patients per week.
Twelve more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Friday morning, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 790 this year.
During the period, 2,129 more patients were hospitalized with the viral fever. Of the new patients, 843 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside it.
