The cause of the explosion at Gulistan's blast has not been identified yet. However, the bomb disposal unit of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) has revealed the five possible reasons that could cause the explosion at the seven-storey building in Gulistan's Siddikbazar.
The bomb disposal crew, however, considers that after examining the collapsed building, the injured, and the deceased that gas accumulated in a locked area in the building's basement and turned into a gas chamber.
The bomb disposal crew pointed out five possible routes for gas to accumulate in this situation.
Five possible reasons are: Gas can be emitted from the water tank under the ground of the building. Between the two buildings there was a septic tank, from which gas could be released. Gas may accumulate from a gas line that broke or methane gas may accumulate in the walls. Sewage line pipes can leak and accumulate gas. And large generators in buildings can also accumulate gas somehow.

“The gas had accumulated in the closed room of the building in any way. It initially appeared that the building had exploded from a spark from an electrical short circuit or some other means,” Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of CTTC bomb disposal team Rahmat Ullah Chowdhury told the media.
ADC Rahmat Ullah Chowdhury has given the initial opinion that this explosion is not sabotage.
“No explosive or IED (improvised explosive device) circuit was discovered. When an explosive is utilized, the fumigation process produces colorful or black smoke. Yet there was no such proof,” the ADC further said.
He also said: “The type of injury on the body recovered from the scene also suggests that it was a gas explosion. The gas level was three to five feet high, judging from the way the burn victims were injured seems that this explosion was caused by methane gas”.
So far, 19 people were killed in the blast. Many were injured. At least 20 of the injured persons are now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
