The bodies of the three victims who were killed in the explosion that took place on the third floor of a building named "Shirin Mansion" in Dhaka's Science Lab area have been handed over to their families on Monday morning.
The bodies were handed over after completing autopsies at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The procedure was done by Dr Fahmida Haque.
On Sunday, Newmarket police station officers transferred the bodies from Dhaka's Popular Hospital and sent them to DMCH, after completing all legal proceedings.
The victims are Md Shafikuzzaman, 46, Abdul Mannan, 63, and Sadekur Rahman Tushar, 32.
They were employees of the same shop named “New Generation Layla”.
Shafikuzzaman's brother, Mohiuddin said his brother had two children aged five and 11. His body will be buried in their hometown Rajbari.
Meanwhile, Mannan's son, Mosaddak Hossain, stated that his father's passing came only a few months after his sister's death.
“We will bury my father's body beside my sister's grave in Azimpur graveyard.”
“Tushar left a wife and a daughter. My brother and I used to pay for our mother's dialysis costs with our salaries,” said Tushar's brother Biplop. His body will be buried in Narsingdi.
Meanwhile, three of the five victims who are hospitalized with burn injuries are in critical condition.
Dr Samanta Lal Sen of Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute said: “Three victims are in critical condition. They are now under observation. Some of them have inhalation burns, and some of them have 20-40% surface-level burn injuries,” he added.
Sheikh Hasina Bern and Plastic Surgery Institute sources said that a total of five people are undergoing treatment till 5:30pm on Sunday.
The fire broke out at around 10:53am and the fire service brought the blaze under control at around 11:13am.
Locals said the three-storey building has several fabric shops on the ground and second floors. Also next to it are high-rise residential buildings and the Priyangan Shopping Center.
Witnesses said there was a loud explosion at the time of the incident, which quickly filled the surrounding areas with a gas odor and smoke.
