A case has been started in connection with the death of Marufa Jahan Maisha of Kurigram during a finger surgery at Alam Memorial Hospital in Rupnagar, Mirpur, Dhaka.
The child's father, Mozaffar Hossain, filed the case at Rupnagar police station on Monday, Bangla Tribune reported on Tuesday quoting the plaintiff.
Three doctors and the owner of the hospital (unknown) were named in the case. The three doctors are National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital Assistant Prof Md Ahsan Habib, Assistant Prof Shariful Islam and Dr Ronnie.
Rupnagar police station Inspector Nayan Das was assigned to investigate the case.
Azizur Rahman Dulu, a lawyer at the Supreme Court, said according to Section 304 of the Penal Code, if the crime is proven, the maximum punishment can be five years of imprisonment along with a fine.
Earlier, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday sealed off Alam Memorial Hospital after the authorities found out the hospital was unregistered.
A written order was given to the hospital authorities to refrain from providing healthcare.
Associated with the surgery, Dr Ahsan Habib and Dr Shariful Islam were summoned by the DGHS on Monday.
Earlier, the relatives of Maisha brought her to Dhaka for a hand surgery.
Family members said Maisha's father took her to Mirpur Islami Bank Hospital to see Dr Ahsan Habib, an assistant professor of surgery at the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital.
Dr Ahsan Habib observed Maisha's hand and said following a surgery it will return to normal.
Dr Ahsan Habib performed the surgery after she was brought to Alam Memorial Hospital in Rupnagar.
However, Maisha's lifeless body came out of the operation theatre three hours later.
The child's family and local residents demanded a fair investigation into the incident, claiming it was murder.
