Police have recovered the body of a female nurse from her residence in the capital’s Mirpur area.
The 22-year-old woman, Juliet Mandal, had committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of a room at the house, Hosne Ara, sub-inspector at Mirpur police station, told Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.
The family of the woman, however, claims that their daughter was murdered by her in-laws.
The in-laws found the woman hanging in the room and took her to Mirpur Heart Foundation. Later, she was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The woman, daughter of Subal Mandal, hailed from Gournadi Upazila of Barisal.
Hosne Ara said that they had found marks of injury on the woman’s neck and back. The body was sent to the morgue for an autopsy, she added.
Sniddhi Moni, the younger sister of the deceased, alleged that the in-laws of Juliet had been torturing her to get their hands on the salary that she got as a senior nurse at a hospital.
The deceased’s sister-in-law, Nupur Bannerjee, on the other hand, labelled Juliet as a bad-tempered woman.
