Three cases were started on Wednesday against more than 1,000 unidentified persons over the recent clashes between New Market shopkeepers and students of Dhaka College.
Sub-Inspector Mehedi Hasan and Inspector Yamin Kabir of New Market police station filed two of them. The other is a murder case, filed over the death of delivery worker Nahid Hossain during the skirmishes, by his uncle Md Said.
The number of accused in Said’s case is 150-200, 200-300 in the case filed over Molotov cocktail blasts and another 800-1000 in the case filed over obstruction of police work, said New Market police station OC MA Kaiyum.

The clashes have been traced back to an altercation at an eatery in the New Market on Monday night.
The sporadic fights throughout the next day left more than 50 people injured.
Two of them have so far succumbed to their injuries – Nahid Hossain, 20, died on Tuesday night and Morsalin, 26, passed away early on Thursday.
