A clash broke out between students of Dhaka College and Ideal College in the Science Lab area of the capital on Thursday.
The incident took place at around 11am.
According to witnesses, the incident began with a verbal altercation between students of the two institutions, which quickly escalated into a clash.
Tension spread across the area, forcing a temporary suspension of vehicular movement on nearby roads. As of 12:30pm, when this report was filed, tension was still prevailing between the two sides.
Upon receiving information, law enforcement personnel rushed to the scene and attempted to bring the situation under control. Police fired two rounds of tear gas inside Dhaka College, after which students dispersed.
However, it could not be immediately confirmed whether anyone was injured in the incident.
Earlier, on November 9 last year, a “peace agreement” was reached between students of Dhaka College and Dhanmondi Ideal College through mediation by New Market police station.
During the program, students from both institutions pledged not to engage in further clashes, holding roses and chanting slogans of friendship.
On December 10, higher secondary students of both institutions were again involved in counter-attacks and clashes, during which two Dhaka College buses were vandalized.
