A senior official of Uttara Motors has succumbed to his burn injuries after fighting for life for a week.
Mehdadur Rahman Durand, 50, deputy managing director of the automobile company, died early on Saturday while undergoing treatment at the ICU of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, its Resident Physician Dr Partha Shankar Paul said.
Around 50% of the surface area of Durand’s body was burnt, added Dr Paul.
Gulshan police station SI Bayezid Bostami said Durand had sustained burn injuries in a fire caused by an air-conditioner malfunction at his Gulshan home on June 19 and passed away on Saturday.
The body of the deceased was later handed over to his family without an autopsy, the police official said.
