Three young men sustained burn injuries in an explosion caused by accumulated gas in a septic tank at a residential building on Free School Street in Dhaka's Kathalbagan on Wednesday night.

The injured were identified as Md Jewel, 20, Md Rana, 22, and Md Parvez, 21. All three have been admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Md Rajib, who accompanied them to the hospital, said the explosion occurred suddenly due to gas that had built up inside a septic tank on the ground floor of the building.

He said the three victims, who work at a furniture shop in Panthapath, were rescued and taken to the burn institute at around 12:30am. They are currently undergoing treatment.

Hospital sources said Jewel suffered burns to 30% of his body, Rana to 63%, and Parvez to 21%.

Rana has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), while Jewel and Parvez are under observation.
