Prof Tareque Shamsur Rahman found dead at his flat

Police recovered the body on Saturday

Police have recovered the body of Prof Dr Tareque Shamsur Rahman from his flat in Uttara, Dhaka.

Political analyst Dr Tareque was a teacher at the Department of International Relations of Jahangirnagar University, reports Bangla Tribune.

Police broke open the door of the flat and recovered the body on Saturday.

The cause of his death could not be known immediately.

Prof M Shafiq-Ur Rahman, a teacher of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the university, said the housemaid of Dr Tareque came for work in the morning and knocked at the door, but she did not get any reply.

At one stage, neighbours became aware of the matter and tried to break down the door of the flat.

Turag police were also informed and they reached the spot later on.

The body was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, according to media reports.

He lived alone in the flat as his family lives abroad.

Dr Tareque had served as a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

A regular columnist, Dr Tareque authored several books on international politics and foreign policy.
