A section of students from seven affiliated colleges of Dhaka University on Saturday protested claiming DU authorities were indifferent to implementing their demands.
The protesting students staged a human chain in front of the National Press Club to press home their seven-point demand.
The demands included starting the next session of classes online and publishing results within three months after exams to lessen logjam.
They also demanded to take exams of the 2015-16 and 2016-17 regular sessions and complete 2012-13 session ongoing special exams immediately.
All the examinations must be taken very quickly, and all results must be re-evaluated to find reasons for mass failure, they said.
Addressing the protest, students said the university authorities have not come up with a solution despite repeated demands and protests.
In the human chain, the students sought the intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to solve the problems of the seven colleges.
On February 16, 2017, seven renowned government colleges in Dhaka were affiliated with Dhaka University following the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Education Ministry.
The affiliated colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Govt Women College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College.
After affiliation of the colleges with DU, the students of the seven institutions were initially happy. They have now become frustrated as they cannot complete their studies in a reasonable time.
