Gas supply to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and its adjoining areas in Dhaka will be suspended for five hours for relocation of gas pipelines.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Farmgate, National Parliament premises, east and west Raja Bazar, Monipuripara and Shukrabad areas will not get gas supply from 2pm to 7pm on Saturday, according to a Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd (TGTDCL) press note issued on Thursday.
Household, commercial, captive power, industrial and CNG consumers in the aforementioned areas will be affected by the gas outage.
Gas outages and low pressure are two major problems Dhaka dwellers face very often, with the crisis worsening every winter.
Consumers also come across the two problems owing to the installation and replacement of gas pipelines on a regular basis, mainly because of slack coordination between utility agencies.
The TGTDCL is already facing a shortfall of at least 300mmcfd gas against the demand of around 2,200mmcfd. In the Dhaka metropolitan area alone, the demand is nearly 1,700mmcfd.
With 2,783,134 consumers, including 44 power plants, three fertilizer factories, 1,630 captive power producers, and 5,128 industrial units, the TGTDCL supplies gas under eight categories to the Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions.
The number of Titas' household consumers is 2,764,247, while the numbers of commercial and CNG users stand at 11,688 and 382, respectively.
