Awami League leaders on Wednesday expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina for the continuous “cleansing drive” against casino business, extortion, corruption, and terrorism.
They also urged the party leader to gear up the action against corrupted politicians of the party.
Awami League National Committee members said these at a meeting presided over by the party President Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban in Dhaka.
Party insiders who attended the meeting confirmed the matter.
If the “cleansing drive” becomes successful, people of the country would vote Awami League into power even in the next election, they said.
They said Awami League does not want any tender manipulators, extortionists, infiltrators in the party.
Those involved in such types of activities have to be removed from all levels of the party including central committee to all the way to grassroots.
Seeking anonymity, some top leaders told Dhaka Tribune that National Committee members from more than 15 districts spoke at the meeting rather than the Central Committee members.
Sources said, several Awami League National Committee leaders recalled fond memories of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Hasina and thanked her for the continuing development of Bangladesh.
Urging her to remain the party president indefinitely, they also asked Hasina to publish her autobiography.
