Murdered Bangladesh University of Engineering and University (Buet) student Abrar Fahad’s younger brother Abrar Faiyaz has left Dhaka College for Kushtia Government College.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, Faiyaz applied for a transfer certificate (TC) from Dhaka College.
Dhaka College Vice-Principal ATM Mainul Haque confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
“We have received an application from Faiyaz today (Tuesday) where he asked for a transfer certificate. He does not want to stay in Dhaka anymore after his brother’s death and wants to study in Kushtia Government College which is located in his hometown. An official from the Dhaka Education Board college section has confirmed that Faiyaz’s application has been granted,” the vice principal said.
When asked, Faiyaz told journalists that he does not want to stay in Dhaka anymore due to security reasons following the murder of his elder brother.
“My brother (Abrar Fahad) was my guardian in Dhaka. He used to take care of everything here and was the person who I trusted the most. As he is not here anymore, there is no point of staying in Dhaka for me. Besides, my family members also do not want me to stay here,” he told journalists.
Meanwhile, Kushtia College Principal Kazi Manzur Kadir told Dhaka Tribune that the college’s science department has a vacant seat for Faiyaz.
Abrar, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of Buet, was beaten to death inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7.
Some Chhatra League leaders of the organization's Buet chapter have been accused of beating him to death for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Abrar's father filed a murder case against 19 people at Chawkbazar police station on the day of the murder.
As of Tuesday, 20 people have been arrested in the case and several of them remanded. Some of them gave confessional statements of their involvements in the murder.
