Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has detained two members of New JMB in connection with Science Lab and Gulistan attacks.
Mehedi Hasan Tamim and Abdullah Ajmir were arrested from Dhaka's Mohammadpur area around 8:15pm on Sunday, CTTC chief Monirul Islam said during a press briefing at DMP media centre on Monday.
The CTTC chief said: "Mehedi was directly involved in the August 30 Science Lab and April 29 Gulistan attacks, which left several policemen injured. Ajmir assisted Mehedi in these attacks.
"They are members of the operational wing of New JMB. Both of them are students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, and have been involved with militancy since the beginning of their university lives."
He continued: "They received training in Bhola's remote Chor area in February, 2018, and began New JMB operations in Narayanganj at the beginning of 2019."
The two were shown arrested in the Gulistan bomb blast, the CTTC chief said.
Earlier on April 29, two traffic police constables and one community traffic member were injured in a blast in Dhaka's Gulistan area.
Then on August 30, two police personnel sustained injuries in the crude bomb blast in front of a police box at Dhaka's Science Laboratory intersection.
