The authorities of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) have sealed off three rooms of Chhatra League members, as a part of its decision to ban student politics.

Three rooms, of two separate residential halls of the institution, were sealed off on Saturday, Director of Students’ Welfare (DSW) Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune.

Room number 121 of Ahsan Ullah Hall was sealed off by authorities, as it was used as an office by Chhatra League members to carry out their political activities.

Buet Chhatra League President Jami-Us-Sany's room, number 321 of the aforementioned residential hall, has also been put under lock and key.

On the other hand, room number 3012 of Sher-e-Bangla Hall -- the room of Buet Chhatra League's General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Rasel -- has also been sealed off.

Rasel was detained by police in connection with the murder of Abrar Fahad, a second year student of the university.

Earlier in the day, Buet authorities issued written statements accepting the five demands by the protesting students, according to the decisions taken during the meeting held between Buet's vice chancellor and the protesting students on Friday.

One of the notices stated that the administration would start an eviction drive against illegal tenants, and seal off all offices of student organizations on campus.

What happened to Abrar Fahad?

Abrar, of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, was beaten to death inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of  the morning on September 6.

Several Chhatra League leaders have been accused of mercilessly torturing him for hours and   beating him to death, after accusing him of being involved with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Many other students on campus have also come forth with accounts of severe bullying, harassment and torture by BCL members.

Abrar's father filed a murder case against 19 people at Chawkbazar police station on evening of September 7. As of Saturday, 19 people have been detained in connection with the case.
