Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon had left for Singapore on Sunday night.
The DSCC mayor went to Singapore to acquire information and enrich his knowledge ahead of launching the “Communicable Disease Control and Research Department”, as part of a five-year plan taken by the DSCC for controlling different communicable diseases including Aedes mosquitoes, DSCC Public Relations Officer Uttam Kumer Roy said on Monday.
DSCC Executive Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman and Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Sharif Ahmed are accompanying the mayor.
Khokon will take part in different programs and exchange views with officials of Singapore Health Ministry and National Environment Agency about controlling Aedes mosquitoes.
The Mayor is expected to return home at the end of this week.
Bangladesh has been struggling to contain a massive outbreak of dengue this year. Dhaka, the densely-populated capital city, has been at the centre of the outbreak.
The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported a total of 60 dengue patient deaths across Bangladesh from January 1 till September 9, according to their own collected data.
However, the unofficial death toll reported is 141, till date.
