Home Minister Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has requested the citizens to limit car usage during the five-day assembly of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) which is being held in Dhaka.
He made the statement after supervising the security at South Plaza of the National Parliament where the 136th assembly of the IPU has begun from April 1 and will conclude on April 5.
The minister said: “For the sake of the security of the foreign delegates I am asking the citizens, to use their cars only when it is very necessary.”
“Besides, HSC examinations will be held on April 2 and April 4.
“Therefore, I am asking for your support to ensure traffic free roads so that the examinees can reach exam halls on the right time, and the foreign delegates can comfortably reach the IPU venue,” the minister said.
Minister Asaduzzaman also said: “The whole area surrounding the South Plaza is under tight security. Besides, high security measures have been ensured around the city for the maximum security.
“According to the airport immigration report about 1150 foreign delegates have already arrived in Bangladesh,” the minister added.
A total of 1,348 delegates – including 53 speakers, deputy speakers and 209 female parliamentarians –from 120 countries will be participating in the assembly.
