Update : 20 Apr 2019, 04:58 PM

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on the use of fireworks and the carrying of all types of explosives and firecrackers in the capital, on the occasion of the holy Shab-e-Barat to be observed on Sunday night.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia made the statement at a press release on Saturday.

The ban has been enforced under Section 28 of DMP Police Ordinance-1976 and will be in force from 6pm on Sunday to 6am on Monday.

Earlier, the National Moon Sighting Committee confirmed Shab-e-Barat will be on Sunday (April 21).

State Minister for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Md Abdullah, made the announcement on Tuesday, as the Shaban moon was not sighted in Bangladesh on April 6.

Shab-e-Barat is observed on the 15th night of the Arabic month of Shaban. Many muslims offer special prayers, recite the holy Quran, and take part in other religious rituals.

As per instruction from DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, the fireworks restriction will come into force, aiming to ensure the sanctity and peaceful observation of the holy night.

City dwellers have been asked to abide by the restrictions to preserve the sanctity of the night.
