A five-day photo exhibition arranged by Manusher Jonno Foundation, with the help of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), has begun at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The event began on Tuesday, with Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurating the program as chief guest.
Before the inauguration, the minister said: “We are being affected by global climate change on a large scale, as made evidenced by the non-seasonal rain and changing weather patterns. The youth should engage in keeping our environment clean.”
Asaduzzaman Noor also said: “Neither TV talk shows nor human chains can create effective movements for the environment. We need a large number of youths to become involved, in order to spread awareness on this matter.” he added.
At the event, four photographers were awarded for their work in a competition on climate related issues. A total 87 photographers took part in the competition, with a jury of veteran photographers selecting just five out of the 522 entries for the award. Thirty-seven of the participants are taking part in the exhibition, with a total 69 photos.
Photojournalist Sumon Paul secured the first and third prize for two separate photos, with Sheikh Mohir Uddin receiving the second prize. Moniruzzaman Shojol and Omar Faruk won the fourth and fifth prize respectively.
Every winner received a certificate along with prize money.
