Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police have arrested nine members of the teenage gang “Kobji Kata,” including leaders Roni and Joni, for attacking police in Sunibir Housing, Adabor.
A machete used in the assault was recovered at the time, said acting DC of Tejgaon DB, Md Rakib Khan, said on Wednesday.
The main culprits, Roni, 27 and Joni, 24, along with Md Osman, 20, Md Nazir, 20, Md Raju, 27, Md Shakil, 19, Md Abul Kamal Azad, 19, Md Reju Khan Alam, 22, and Md Alamin, 18, were involved in kidnapping and assaulting a couple on September 1. The gang also attacked police and the victim’s family when authorities arrived, injuring several and vandalizing a patrol vehicle, he said.
Following intelligence-led operations, DB teams raided areas under Keraniganj and Savar Police Stations early Wednesday, arresting all nine gang members.
Rakib added that the gang, led by Roni and Joni in the absence of jailed head Anwar, has been involved in extortion, robbery, fighting, drug use, and eve-teasing. They have terrorized residents of Sunibir Housing and surrounding areas, leaving locals distressed and helpless.
