Ex-member of parliament Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury was sent to court showing arrest in connection with a human trafficking case filed with Paltan Police Station on Tuesday.
He was produced before the court with a petition seeking a five-day remand.
According to DB officials, a total of 11 cases, have so far, been unearthed against him.
Speaking at a briefing at the DMP Media Center on Tuesday afternoon, DB chief and additional commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said a team of DB police arrested Masud early Tuesday from a residence in the Baridhara area of the capital.
He said that three of the cases are currently under trial in Feni district, where arrest warrants were issued as the accused had been absconding. In addition, three more cases in Feni and five cases under DMP jurisdiction are under investigation. Several allegations are also being probed by the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Criminal Investigation Department.
The DB chief added that the cases against Masud include charges of murder, attempted murder, human trafficking under the relevant prevention law, and money laundering. These cases have been filed with multiple police stations under DMP, including Banani, Paltan, Kotwali, Mirpur, and Hatirjheel.
Masud has initially been shown arrested in the human trafficking case under investigation at Paltan Police Station, where he is listed as the third accused among 101 individuals named in the case.
Police had been attempting to apprehend him for a long time, as he had reportedly been in hiding within the country. He was ultimately arrested from his Baridhara residence.
“Bangladesh Police remains committed to upholding democratic continuity and ensuring justice by preventing wrongdoing,” the DB chief added.
