In Gazipur's Sreepur, a female garment worker, 23, was allegedly gang-raped while trying to rescue her colleague from the clutches of miscreants.
The perpetrators reportedly detained and raped the woman for 40 hours, during which her colleague, Nazmul Haque, 27, was also tortured.
The incident occurred at a rented house owned by Nazrul Ukil in Kewa Purbo Khanda (Fakhr Uddin Printing Factory Gate) of Sreepur municipality.
On Saturday, the survivor filed a case with the Sreepur police station, naming four individuals and accusing three unidentified ones.
Inspector Nayan Kar of Sreepur police station confirmed the incident and reported that three suspects had been arrested from different areas of Sreepur.
The accused are Ashraful Islam, 29, son of deceased Mizanur Rahman of Kewa Dokkhin Khanda, Sreepur; Sagar, 25, son of Mosharraf from Kawraid (Morol Para); Yasin, 24, from Kewa Dokkhin Khanda (Garopara); Monirul Islam Nirob, 18, son of Hashem Islam from Hatkhola Bazar, Netrokona sadar; and three unidentified accomplices.
The fourth accused, Monirul Islam Nirob, resides as a tenant in the house of Nazrul Islam in Kewa Purbo Khanda.
The arrestees are Sagar, Ashraful Islam, and Monirul Islam Nirob.
According to the case statement, the survivor said that both she and Nazmul Haque work at the same factory.
On Wednesday, while she was at home, Nazmul called her around 3pm, saying he was in trouble and asked her to come to the banyan tree near Fakhr Uddin Factory.
Upon arriving there at 3:15pm, Sagar inquired about her identity and took her to a nearby house owned by Nazrul Ukil, where she found Nazmul being assaulted by the accused.
When she intervened and asked them to release Nazmul, the accused demanded a ransom of Tk50,000 for his release.
Upon her refusal, they became enraged and took her to a separate room, where Ashraful and Sagar raped her at gunpoint.
The survivor further said that after they left the room, three unidentified men came and raped her as well.
She was confined in the house until Friday at 9am when she was released after leaving her mobile phone behind as collateral for an additional demand of Tk10,000.
Monirul Islam Nirob later arranged an autorickshaw for her to return home.
After consulting with her husband and family members, she filed the case on Saturday.
Nazmul Haque claimed that on Wednesday around 4pm, he was returning home after withdrawing his salary when his colleague Yasin called him to Fakhruddin Mor.
Upon reaching there, Yasin and his accomplices took him to a house, tortured him, and demanded Tk2,00,000.
They snatched Tk14,500 of his salary and later forced him to send an additional Tk4,000 through bKash.
Sreepur police station OC Zainal Abedin Mondal said that three of the accused were arrested immediately after the case was filed.
They will be presented before a Gazipur court on Sunday.
