The jail superintendent of Kashimpur Central Jail who had allowed the Hallmark general manager a private visit from a woman in prison has been demoted.
Senior Jail Superintendent Ratna Roy had been suspended since January 24, 2021, after the incident came to light.
She has now been re-instated as a seventh-grade officer, a demotion from the sixth-grade, according to a notice issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
On January 6, 2021, Tushar Ahmed, the general manager of Hallmark Group met a woman in the room of a prison official.
The CCTV footage of Tushar and the woman went viral after a private TV channel published a report on the matter on January 22, 2021.
In the footage, a woman was seen entering the prison around 12:55pm while Tushar wandered around the prison officer’s room.
Deputy Jailor Saqlain welcomed the woman at his office. The video footage showed that Tushar stayed in the room with the woman for around 45 minutes.
Ratna Roy has been held accountable for failing to uphold the prison rules and discipline and not safe-keeping the CCTV footage of the prison.
