CTTC: Abu's wife led him into militancy, her parents missing

Sumaiya Khatun, wife of militant Abu Ali, led him down the path of militancy, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has said. "Abu's wife persuaded him to become a militant," CTTC unit Chief Monirul Islam told media on Saturday. Abu and three other militants were killed in an anti-terror operation in Chapainawabganj on Thursday, code-named Operation Eagle Hunt. Police said the militants had blown themselves up. Sumaiya surrendered with a four-year-old girl at 5:30pm on Thursday, on the second day that law enforcement agencies laid siege to their Shibnagar militant hideout. Law enforcement officials shot the female militant in the right leg when she exited the building, as they suspected that she may have had explosives on her person. Sumaiya was first taken to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital and then shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on the same day . While at the former, it was found that she was three months pregnant. Sumaiya is still undergoing treatment at RMCH. The child that she left the hideout with, Sajida Khatun, is currently staying with a foster family in Rajshahi. CTTC Chief Monirul said that Abu's in-laws were involved with Jamaat-e-Islami. Abu's family has refused to accept his body, while Sumaiya's parents have been missing since the day of the raid. Locals near her parental home in Monnapara of the Shibganj upazila told the Dhaka Tribune that Sumaiya's family kept to themselves for the most part and celebrated Eid in accordance with Saudi Arabia. They said the parent's house had been locked since the day of the raid and they had not said where they were going. Her father's name is Ruhul Amin, while her mother's name is still unknown.
