Terming Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) as a terrorist organization, the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord Implementation and Monitoring Committee asked the concerned department to crack down on them.
The committee advised the secretary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs to send a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs to take swift action against them.
According to sources, the activities of the Kuki-Chin National Front and the recent situation in the hilly region were discussed in the meeting of the committee.
It termed KNF as terrorist and militant organizations and advised to suppress them at any cost. At this time, the government's zero tolerance policy against terrorism and extremism was also mentioned in the meeting. It was discussed in the meeting that they (KNF) are terrorists, militants. They should be treated as terrorists and strictly suppressed.
When asked about this, the convener of the committee Abul Hasnat Abdullah said that the overall situation, including the terrorist activities of the KNF, was discussed in the meeting.
“We have asked for swift action against them at any cost. The activities of these terrorists are increasing day by day. They are trying to destroy the peace of the hilly areas. I have asked to take action against them. I have asked the concerned ministry to send a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs to take action against them,” said Abul Hasnat.
In response to a question, he said that militants and terrorists will not be tolerated under any circumstances. They are not a political party that will be a matter of discussion. Instruction has been given to take action against them as terrorists and militants, he added.
The Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) is a banned ethnic separatist political organization based in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. Meanwhile, it was informed in the meeting that the transfer of the government offices of the three hill districts to the hill district council is progressing successfully.
According to the press release of the committee, 30 departments and offices have already been transferred to Rangamati District Council, 29 to Khagrachari and 28 to Bandarban. By doing this, the government service activities of the hill dwellers are getting benefit.
A committee was formed in the meeting to make this activity more effective.
The meeting recommended the implementation of a self-sufficient manpower structure to speed up the activities of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Agreement Implementation and Monitoring Committee.
In the meeting, it was decided to hold a meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the deployment of police in 30 camps out of the 240 camps withdrawn by the army in the hill region.
It was also informed in the meeting that the Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Dispute Settlement Commission Rules-2019 will be discussed with the Ministry of Lands soon with the aim of formulating them in a quick time.
