Police have arrested the son-in-law of Sultan Shahriar Rashid, one of the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

Fuad Zaman was picked up by the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from the capital’s Hatirjheel area on Wednesday night.

Later in the day, he was remanded for three days by  Dhaka court.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaisarul Islam passed the order following a remand hearing after Fuad was produced before his court.

Earlier, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman said: “Fuad was arrested after glorifying the killers of Bangabandhu and dishonouring the memory of the Father of the Nation on a Facebook post he made on August 15.”

“A case was filed against him later at Dhanmondi police station under the ICT Act.”

Bangabandhu and most of his family members were assassinated by a rogue group of army officers on August 15, 1975.

Sultan Shahriar Rashid was one of those who were sentenced to death in the case filed over the assassination of Bangabandhu. He was executed in 2010.
