The three were arrested from the Syedabad area at around 5pm on Monday. Parvej Hossain, a spokesperson for the protesters, said: “If the authorities fail to arrest the culprits, no student will be liable for any damage to buses after 1pm Tuesday.” Along with this, the protesters also put together four other demands – ensure the highest possible punishment for the molesters, introduce identity cards for transport workers so they can be identified quickly if involved in any offence, keep an eye on transport workers to ensure they do not develop drug or alcohol habits, and ensure that transport company owners give written declarations stating such incidents will not occur in the future and that they will not employ unfit or unauthorized vehicles in their bus fleet. In light of the arrest of the suspects, the protesters have withdrawn their first demand along with their threat.
