Kaler Kantha correspondent attacked in Sreepur

Reporter Shahin Ahmed Akond of the daily Kaler Kantha has suffered injuries when three people swooped on him with bamboos and machetes Friday morning. He received first aid from a local doctor. Shahin said he was standing in front of the market near his home when he was hit on the head with bamboos from behind. As he turned around, he was struck again on his shoulder and back. The attackers fled the scene as people rushed to help Shahin. Shahin has identified two of his attackers as Asad, 30, and Gulzar Hossain Rahat, 23, sons of late Abdul Hamid from Satkhamair village. Shahin was, however, unable to identify the third person with beard. Shahin said he did not have any enmity with any of them. According to Sreepur unit Chhatra League Organising Secretary Delwar Hossain Topu, Rahat is the former general secretary of Ward 4 unit Chhatra League of Bormi union in Sreepur. OC of Sreepur police Asaduzzaman said that on receiving a verbal compliant, three police teams had been sent to detain the suspects at their residences, but none of them was found. Sreepur Reporters Unity President Abu Bakr Siddique Akond and Sreepur Upazila Journalist Samity General Secretary M Ruhul Amin have condemned the attack and demanded quick arrest of the culprits.
