SP wife killing: Court frames charges against two

A court in Chittagong on Tuesday framed charges against two persons for supplying firearms that was used to kill Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter. The Metropolitan Session Judge Md Shahe Nur framed the charges against Ehteshamul Haque Bhola alias Bolaiya and his cohort Monir Hossen and fixed January 18 next year for recording their depositions in the case, said Public Prosecutor (PP) advocate Fakhrudin Chowdhury. “Bhola and Monir were both present before the court,” added the PP. Bakalia police station’s Sub-Inspector, Mohim Uddin submitted the charge sheet before the court. The duo was arrested on June 28 from the city’s Bakalia area along with a 6.75 bore pistol and 0.32 revolver and six rounds of bullets, which was believed to be have been used in gruesome murder of Mitu on June 5. After their arrest, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Detective Branch’s Assistant Commissioner (AC) Md Kamruzzaman, also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, filed an arms case against them with Bakalia police station. Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, mother of two children, was brutally hacked and shot dead by three professional murderers near her house in downtown Chittagong's GEC intersection area on June 5 while she was dropping her son to the school bus. Former SP Babul Akter later filed a murder case accusing unidentified persons with Panchlaish police station the following day. The murder case is being investigated by the Detective Branch of police. After the murder, police arrested seven killers so far while two accused were killed in a 'gunfight' with police on July 5. Two of the killers gave their confessional statement under section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) before a court mentioning that Bhola had supplied the firearms and ammunition for the murder. The prime suspect of the murder case, a police informant, Kamrul Islam Musa is on the run. Police declared Tk5 lakh bounty for his arrest.
