HC disposes of 2,425 old cases in a single day

The initiative has been undertaken under the directive of the Chief Justice to expedite the disposal of long-pending cases in the criminal motion and writ motion benches

As part of the High Court Division’s ongoing special initiative to reduce the case backlog, a total of 2,425 long-pending cases were disposed of in a single day.

Of these, 1,884 old criminal miscellaneous cases were settled by the criminal motion benches, while 541 old writ cases were disposed of by the writ motion benches.

The information was disclosed on Thursday in a press release signed by Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam.

According to the release, the High Court Division disposed of the old cases across different benches on the day. Since the launch of the special drive, a total of 15,172 criminal miscellaneous cases and 5,568 writ cases have been disposed of over four working days.

The initiative has been undertaken under the directive of the Chief Justice to expedite the disposal of long-pending cases in the criminal motion and writ motion benches, with the aim of reducing backlog and ensuring swift justice for litigants.

The press release added that the drive, which began on May 7, prioritises the disposal of long-standing criminal miscellaneous and writ cases on designated days each week.

It further stated that the special case disposal initiative will continue in the coming days as part of ongoing efforts to improve judicial efficiency.
