The state has filed a petition seeking a stay on a High Court order that barred authorities from showing former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation Selina Hayat Ivy arrested or harassing her without a specific case.
Ivy’s lawyer, Advocate Md Motahar Hossain Saju, confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune on Tuesday.
Ivy was arrested on May 9, 2025, around 3am from Chunka Kutir in the Deobhog area of Narayanganj. She was later shown arrested in multiple cases.
The High Court granted her bail in five cases, but the Appellate Division later stayed the bail orders following appeals by the state.
On November 18, she was shown arrested in five more cases. She secured bail in those cases on February 26, though the Appellate Division again stayed the bail after state appeals.
Later, the Appellate Division upheld the bail granted in all 10 cases.
Meanwhile, police sought permission to show Ivy arrested in two murder cases filed with Siddhirganj Police Station on September 11, 2024, and June 30, 2025.
The Narayanganj chief judicial magistrate approved the applications on March 2 in one case and April 12 in the other.
A writ petition was subsequently filed challenging the legality of showing her arrested in the cases.
Following a hearing, the High Court on April 26 issued a rule asking why the arrests in the two Siddhirganj cases should not be declared illegal and contrary to fundamental rights.
The court also ordered authorities not to show Ivy arrested or harass her except in connection with specific cases.
The state later moved the Appellate Division seeking a stay on that order.
