Twelve people, including some officials of the Narayanganj City Corporation, were injured in an attack by unauthorized autorickshaw drivers at the city corporation building in Narayanganj on Monday.
Witnesses said the drivers of unauthorized autorickshaws staged a demonstration in front of the building, protesting a move by the city corporation to stop the plying of unauthorized autorickshaws in the city to reduce traffic jams.
At one stage, they entered the building and carried out an attack on some officials and student representatives using brick chips and sharp weapons, leaving 12 people injured.
They also confined the staff of the city corporation inside the building for nearly one and a half hours, creating a tense situation among local people.
NCC Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Zakir Hossain said they carried out the attack on city corporation staffers and student representatives, who were tasked to reduce traffic jams, without provocation.
He also condemned the attack on employees and students.
