The International Crimes Tribunal‑1 on Monday sentenced former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun to five years in prison for crimes against humanity.

Mamun, the only accused present in court, had pleaded guilty and agreed to become a state approver, cooperating with the prosecution.

According to the tribunal judgment, his cooperation and admission of guilt significantly reduced his punishment.

He was among three defendants tried over the July–August 2024 uprising during the anti-discrimination student movement, alongside former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

Meanwhile, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July Uprising.
