Meghna Alam, a model and winner of Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020, has been shown arrested in a fraud case filed at Dhanmondi police station over allegations of blackmailing foreign diplomats through romantic entrapment.

She was produced before a Dhaka court on Thursday morning.

Following the court appearance, the investigating officer of the case submitted a petition seeking her arrest to be officially recorded.

The state prosecutor from the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court supported the plea during a hearing.

After reviewing the petition, Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia granted the plea and ordered Meghna to be shown arrested in the case.

According to the case statement, Meghna Alam, along with Dewan Samir and two or three unnamed individuals, is an active member of a fraud syndicate.

The group allegedly employed attractive young women to lure foreign diplomats and wealthy local businessmen into romantic relationships.

Once trust was established, the syndicate would reportedly use intimate relations and threats of exposure to extort large sums of money, the case documents say.

Dewan Samir is said to be the CEO of Kawaii Group and the owner of Sanjana International, a manpower recruiting agency.

He was previously involved with another business named Mirai International Event Management Limited.

Through his enterprises, Samir reportedly hired smart, attractive women as brand ambassadors to facilitate access to diplomats and businessmen, according to the case files.

The prosecution claims that this arrangement was part of a larger scheme to blackmail high-profile targets and demand hefty sums.

Earlier, on April 10, Meghna Alam was shown arrested under the Special Powers Act and sent to jail for 30 days over her suspected involvement in the same fraud scheme.
