A court on Sunday ordered the seizure of tax files belonging to former health minister Zahid Maleque and his son Rahat Maleque over graft allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, granting a plea from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ACC, in its plea, said that a case had been filed against the former health minister under Section 27 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, Sections 4 (2) and 4 (3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, and Section 5 (2) of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
The anti-graft body further said that a case had also been filed against Rahat Maleque under Section 27 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, Sections 4 (2) and 4 (3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, Section 5 (2) of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, and Section 109 of the Penal Code.
"For the sake of a proper investigation of the case, their tax files should be frozen," the ACC said.
On Thursday, the same court had ordered the freezing of a total of 28 bank accounts belonging to former health minister Zahid Maleque and his son Rahat Maleque over graft allegations.
