The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Wednesday ordered its investigation agency to submit reports within one month in cases filed against eight, including former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.

Former director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) Major General (retd) Ziaul Ahsan is among the accused, reports UNB.

The cases were filed over killings and crimes against humanity during the July-August uprising.

The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, passed the order, said ICT Chief Prosecutor Advocate Md Tajul Islam.

The court ordered keeping the eight accused in jail until the submission of the investigation reports, the chief prosecutor said.

Two other officials, former deputy commissioner (DC) of Mirpur Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Jasim Uddin Molla, and former additional SP of Dhaka (Savar circle), Md Shahidul Islam, had already been arrested and were under ICT custody.

The tribunal set December 19 as the date for submitting the investigation report and the next hearing.

ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Tajul Islam and other prosecutors represented the prosecution during the hearing.

Earlier, on October 27, the tribunal had issued arrest warrants for 17 former police officials in connection with the allegations.

Between July 5 and August 5, several hundred allegations of mass killings and crimes against humanity across the country were filed with the ICT’s investigation agency and prosecution office.

The tribunal began its judicial proceedings on October 17 by issuing arrest warrants for 46 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, on charges of mass killings and crimes against humanity.
