The court has granted bail to former MP MA Awal of Lakshmipur-1 constituency, who was arrested in a fraud case.
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka issued this order on Thursday.
Court-related sources report that a case was filed against MA Awal at the Kalabagan Police Station in the capital for fraud.
He was arrested from Kalabagan on Wednesday. The police presented him in court on Thursday and requested a three-day remand for questioning.
Meanwhile, his lawyers opposed the remand request and filed a bail application on his behalf.
In the written statement presented in court, it was mentioned that there was a land dispute between MA Awal and the plaintiff.
On December 24, 2019, a settlement agreement was reached with the plaintiff regarding this dispute. As per that agreement, Awal provided the plaintiff with eight cheques, five of which were cashed.
Since three cheques could not be cashed, the plaintiff filed a case against Awal in the CMM court in Dhaka. He is currently on bail in that case. After hearing both sides, the court granted bail to MA Awal.
