A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered former inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Hoque to be sent to jail after his remand ended in a case filed over the killing of businessman Abdul Wadud in the Nilkhet area of Dhaka during the recent student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the order following a hearing after the investigation officer, New Market police station Sub-Inspector Baizid Bostami, presented Shahidul in court after a seven-day remand and requested that he be detained in jail.

Law enforcement arrested Shahidul on the night of September 3.

The next day, a court granted police seven days to interrogate him in custody.

Abdul Wadud died from police gunfire on July 19 during a student protest in the Nilkhet area under New Market police station.

Later, his brother-in-law Abdur Rahman filed a murder case against 130 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in this connection.
